UTA AGPCNP clinical courses: NURS 5352, 5353 and 5645
UTA's Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP track runs three clinical courses: NURS 5352, NURS 5353 and the NURS 5645 practicum, in primary and long-term care settings for adolescents, adults and older adults. UTA publishes 720 clinical hours for the whole track, not for each course, so the per-course number has to come from your syllabus.

NURS 5352, 5353 and 5645 at a glance
The catalog places the first two courses in "primary and long term health care settings." The practicum, NURS 5645, is described as clinical preceptorships in "adult gerontology primary care advanced nursing practice." Lengths below are for the accelerated online format.

Prerequisites: NURS 5352 requires NURS 5462 Adult Gerontology Primary Care, or concurrent enrollment in it, and NURS 5645 requires NURS 5352 and NURS 5353. The track's other specialty didactic course is NURS 5461, Adult Gerontology Management Across the Continuum of Care, which the acute care track shares.
How many clinical hours, and where the number comes from
UTA's AGPCNP course list is labeled "2020-2021 Academic Year," yet UTA's program page still points to it, and it states "41 Semester Credit Hours, 720 Clinical Hours." That figure covers the whole track. UTA's online program page and the catalog list these courses without clock hours, and no UTA source we found splits the 720 by course.
It is tempting to borrow another track's split because the credits line up at 3, 3 and 6. Don't: UTA has not published hours for these three courses, and the catalog's 1:4 credit-to-clinical ratio for NURS 5645 is not explained in clock hours. Your syllabus in Canvas, or your course faculty, gives the number you are graded against.
Two cautions about the old list. It still names retired MSN core courses rather than the current NURS 5363, NURS 5364 and NURS 5365, so parts of it are out of date, and it is the only UTA source for the 720 total. The counting rules are current: direct patient care toward the minimum, simulation and observation only above it, and no waived hours. Compare tracks on UTA clinical hours by track.
Do not plan AGPCNP hours from the FNP numbers. UTA publishes per-course clinical hours only for its FNP track.
Primary care and long-term care: the sites these courses need
The first two courses focus on "adolescents, adults, and elders with common episodic acute and chronic health care needs." That points to adult and older-adult primary care, and the catalog names long-term care settings outright. Its population starts at adolescence, so if your preceptor's clinic also sees young children, ask your course faculty which encounters count.
UTA's preceptor minimums apply here as in every track: a provider license that is active and unencumbered, and a minimum of one year practicing in the specialty role. UTA's FAQ mentions a list of acceptable preceptor types for each clinical course, yet none of those lists is public, and we found no UTA document, current or older, that names AGPCNP preceptor types. A clinic or facility where you work can host your hours if the setting fits, but UTA's FAQ excludes your own department and your current supervisor as preceptor. The rules are on clinicals at your employer.
Where the AGPCNP courses sit in your plan
Before NURS 5352, the degree plan covers the courses every UTA NP track shares: NURS 5315 (pathophysiology), NURS 5334 (pharmacology), NURS 5220 (health assessment and diagnostic reasoning), the NURS 5120 adult-gerontology assessment lab and NURS 5350, the advanced practice role course. The two specialty courses, NURS 5461 and NURS 5462, are 4 credits and 8 weeks each online.
UTA's online AGPCNP program is 41 credits and runs "As few as 29-33 months." Start the preceptor search early. On UTA's online FAQ page, one answer puts the start 12 to 16 weeks ahead of the first clinical course, and another sets the deadline at your Pharmacology course. Your course request can go into Exxat MyRequest once the course is within 12 months of its start date. The placement timeline shows the full order of deadlines.
The same courses in the certificate and the dual track
The post-master's AGPCNP certificate is 20 credits in the catalog, and the program director's gap analysis sets which courses you take. Its clinical courses are the same three, and UTA's pages give no clinical hours for the certificate. UTA's online schedule runs certificate sections under a NURSC prefix, so your schedule may show NURSC 5352 rather than NURS 5352. The post-master's certificate page explains the gap analysis.
UTA's online AGACNP page also notes that acute care graduates can add the AGPCNP certificate, which means these same primary care courses.
The adult-gerontology dual track is different. UTA lists it as campus-based, its 2020-21 course list gives it 1,260 clinical hours, and its 2026-27 degree plan keeps NURS 5353 and NURS 5645 but not NURS 5352, alongside the acute care clinical courses. Before your first AGPCNP clinical day
Whichever of the three courses you are starting, UTA expects the same groundwork. Confirm each item before your first clinic day.
- Every Exxat compliance item approved, and the background check and drug test done within the 30 days before your first clinical course.
- Your MyRequest for the course submitted in Exxat before its Wishlist closes.
- Approval of both the preceptor and the site from the Clinical Coordinator and/or course faculty.
- An affiliation agreement between UTA and the clinic or long-term care facility, since UTA requires one before you can do clinicals at an agency.
- The Preceptor Agreement signed and with the Clinical Coordinator by day one.
- Your RN license unencumbered in the state where the site is, with NursingSOA@uta.edu told first if that is not your home state.
- Your UTA MyMav ID, which graduate students wear in the clinical setting.

Questions UTA students ask
How many clinical hours are in NURS 5352?
UTA has not published an hour count for NURS 5352 or the other AGPCNP clinical courses. The only UTA figure is 720 hours for the whole track, from its 2020-21 course list. Check the syllabus in Canvas when the course opens, or ask course faculty earlier if you need the number to plan a schedule with a preceptor.
Can I do AGPCNP clinical hours in a nursing home?
Long-term care is in the catalog description for NURS 5352 and NURS 5353, so a nursing facility can fit those courses if the preceptor and site are approved. The facility needs an affiliation agreement with UTA, and the preceptor must meet UTA's license and one-year minimums. For the NURS 5645 practicum, confirm the setting with course faculty, since the catalog wording for the practicum differs from the first two courses.
Does UTA require RN experience for the AGPCNP track?
For unconditional admission, the 2026-27 catalog wants two years of RN clinical experience, plus CPR certification and a statistics course. UTA's online AGPCNP page does not mention an experience requirement in its admission list. If the difference matters for your application, ask UTA which rule applies to your format.
Is the UTA AGPCNP track online?
Both formats exist. UTA's handbook lists AGPCNP among its campus-based programs and its accelerated online programs. Online, each Clinical Practice course runs 11 weeks and the practicum 13 weeks, and UTA says online clinicals depend on your own clinical arrangements.
