UTA Preceptor is a placement service with one focus: UT Arlington nursing students who need a preceptor or clinical site. UTA runs a self-placement model. Its NP program pages ask each student to find a preceptor who fits the program's requirements, and that search lands on people who are already studying and, often, working shifts.
We take that search off your plate. We look for a preceptor and a site that fit your UTA course, track, patient population and location, with in-person placement close to home as the first choice, and we build the approval packet with you so it is right before it goes in.
Because every placement we work on is a UTA placement, we know its clinical process in detail: Exxat and MyRequest, the Preceptor Agreement, affiliation agreements, the states UTA's programs are open in and the hour totals for each track. Your handbook, syllabus and faculty stay the reference for your course, and every search is planned around what they say.

You file the request in Exxat and log your own hours, and everything we help prepare is accurate and ready to stand up to UTA's review. When a question can only be settled by UTA, such as whether your course accepts a particular type of preceptor, we tell you which UTA page, role or system has the answer, whether that is Exxat, your Clinical Coordinator or UTA's state authorization team.
Built around UTA's approval
UTA's approval step has a clear basis. Texas Board of Nursing rule 22 TAC §219.10 places students' clinical learning under the responsibility and accountability of nursing faculty. It calls for written agreements with clinical agencies and, where preceptors are used, three-way written agreements between the program, preceptor and agency, with a designated faculty member in regular contact with both preceptor and student.
UTA's process follows that shape. Each preceptor and site is approved by your Clinical Coordinator, your course faculty or both, the preceptor signs UTA's Preceptor Agreement, and an affiliation agreement with the clinical agency has to be in place before your clinicals there begin.
Our work is built to feed that review. UTA gives the final approval; we make sure the preceptor meets its minimums and the packet is complete on arrival. Clinical Coordinator approval explains what UTA looks at and why requests come back.
How we read UTA's rules
We work from UTA's own published sources: the MSN and PMC Student Handbook, the DNP Student Handbook, UTA's program pages, its Exxat page and the Graduate Nursing Clinical Clearance Requirements. Each page on this site lists the sources it relied on and the date it was checked.
Where UTA is silent or contradicts itself, we say so plainly. Its pages name both Exxat and InPlace as the clinical management system, it publishes no rule on telehealth hours, and each course's list of acceptable preceptor types sits inside Exxat rather than on a public page. The handbook at UTA's current link is the 2024-2025 edition, revised January 2025.
In those cases we point you to your course Canvas page, the Exxat Resources tile or your Clinical Coordinator. Older UTA syllabi are labeled as older, and anything from student forums appears only as what students report, never as UTA policy.
Working with the placement desk
You reach the placement desk through the form on any page or through the chat. A placement advisor answers, in the chat or by text or email, using the contact details you gave. The first conversation covers your track, course, start date and location, and a written quote and terms follow before you commit to anything. From that first message the conversation is about your placement: the course, the dates, the hours and the places you can reach. You see the quote and terms in writing, so you know exactly what you are getting before the search begins.

How does UTA Preceptor work alongside UT Arlington?
As an independent placement service built around UTA's own process. UTA names roles rather than a placement office: your Clinical Coordinator approves preceptors and sites together with your course faculty. We handle the search and the preparation that come before their review, so the request they see is complete and fits UTA's rules.
Do you work with UTA students who live outside Texas?
Yes, in every state UTA's programs are open to. For the NP programs, post-master's NP certificates and DNP, that means Texas plus Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico and Virginia; UTA's other programs each keep their own state list. The placement by state pages show which UTA programs are open where you live.
Can you help my placement get through UTA's review faster?
Yes, by getting it right the first time. UTA sets the pace of its own review, and the quickest path through it is a request that needs no follow-up: a preceptor who clearly meets UTA's minimums, a site whose affiliation agreement is in place or underway, and the documents the Clinical Coordinator expects.
