Contact the placement desk

Send the form on this page or open the chat, and a placement advisor gets back to you there or by text or email. The first conversation covers your UTA track, course, start date and location, and from there the placement desk works your placement through to your first clinical day.

Send your placement request

Your UTA program, when clinicals start, and your city and state are enough to begin. A placement advisor replies by text or email.

By sending this you agree we may reply by email, call or text about your placement. Message and data rates may apply; reply STOP to opt out. Privacy

Numbered steps. What happens after you send it: 1 You hear back; 2 The first conversation; 3 Quote and terms, in writing; 4 The search.

Two ways to reach us

The form and the chat both reach the placement desk directly. Everything about a placement can be settled in writing, which gives you a clear record of what was discussed and agreed.

  • The form sits at the top and bottom of this page and on every other page. It asks six things: name, email, phone, UTA program, clinical start, and city and state.
  • The chat opens from the button on any page. Use it for a quick question before you send anything, or to pick up a conversation you started earlier in the same browser.

Both reach the same placement desk, so use whichever suits you. Sending either one commits you to nothing.

What to include in your request

The form covers the basics. Have these details ready for the conversation that follows, because they decide what kind of preceptor and site will fit.

  • Your program and track, as UTA names them, such as FNP, PMHNP or MSN Nursing Education. If you're unsure, choose Not sure yet on the form.
  • The course number of the clinical course you need placed, such as NURS 5337 or NURS 5660.
  • The date that course opens, plus any Wishlist close date you can see in Exxat MyRequest.
  • Where you live: city, county and how far you can travel. UTA's NP programs are open only in seven states.
  • Hours still needed, if you are already in a course and short.
  • Your employer, if you want your workplace considered. UTA excludes your own department, and your current supervisor can't serve as your preceptor.
  • Leads you've already tried, so the search doesn't repeat them.
  • Anything your faculty have said about virtual arrangements.

Where your documents go

Planning a placement takes only your course details and contact information. Everything else has its own home, and we keep each piece where it belongs.

  • Your compliance documents, such as immunization records or your background check, go into Exxat for UTA's review.
  • Your preceptor's documents, such as a CV and license details, are gathered with the preceptor's agreement once they say yes, and go into the packet we build with you.
  • The request itself goes into Exxat MyRequest from your side, with every supporting piece ready.
  • Patient information stays at the clinical site. UTA's MSN and PMC Student Handbook says no protected health information should be removed from the clinical setting, and that includes details in your clinical logs.

How we handle what you send us is set out in the privacy policy.

What happens after you send it

The order is the same for everyone, whether your clinical course opens next year or next month.

  1. You hear backExpect the reply in the chat if that is where you wrote, or by text or email if you used the form.
  2. The first conversationTrack, course number, start date and location come first, then the hours, in person or virtual, and anything that could complicate UTA's approval.
  3. Quote and terms, in writingBoth arrive before you commit, and going ahead is your call. See what shapes the cost.
  4. The searchIt starts only once you accept. How it works covers each step from there to your first clinical day.

From then on, a placement advisor stays with you through UTA's review and the whole term, on call if a preceptor drops. UTA's Clinical Coordinator gives the final approval, and we make sure what reaches them is complete.

If your clinical course opens soon

Say so in your first message, and pick the clinical start option that matches: this term, or already started and behind on hours. Put the course number and its opening date near the top so the conversation starts there.

At the same time, tell your Clinical Coordinator. UTA's Department of Graduate Nursing offers placement help to students who are struggling, and raising the problem early keeps that route open. UTA placement assistance explains how to ask.

If a preceptor has just canceled, read preceptor dropped out while you wait for a reply. It covers what to tell UTA and how to protect the hours you have already logged.

FAQ

Questions UTA students ask

Can I talk to someone rather than fill in a form?

Yes. Open the chat on any page and you are talking to the placement desk. If you send the form instead, a placement advisor replies by text to the number you gave, or by email, and you can reply STOP to any text to stop receiving them.

Can I ask a question in the chat without filling in the form?

Yes. The chat reaches the same placement desk, and you can ask there about things like what UTA expects of a preceptor for your course. To plan an actual placement, the desk will still need your contact details, UTA program, start date and location.

Which program should I pick if I'm not sure?

Choose Not sure yet and bring what you know to the conversation that follows: the degree you're enrolled in, a course number from your degree plan in MyMav, or the name of your next clinical course. The placement advisor can work out the right track from any of those.

Is sending the form the same as signing up?

No. It starts a conversation. A placement advisor talks through your track, course, start date and location, then sends a written quote and terms for you to read. Nothing is searched for until you accept them, and you can stop at any point before then.

Hand us the search. Keep your term.

Tell us your UTA track, your county and when your clinical course opens. We look for a preceptor and a site that fit what UTA asks for, and we help you put the approval packet together.

  • Matched to your track's population and setting
  • Paperwork prepared the way UTA's clinical team expects it
  • In person near you, or a virtual option where your course allows it
