Each UTA track asks for something different. NP tracks need licensed preceptors in the right population for 720 hours or more. The DNP needs a project site, not a preceptor. RN-to-BSN students do their practice work at their own job or in the community. Pick your program.

Questions UTA students ask

Which UTA programs need a preceptor?

Every NP track, the dual tracks, the post-master's NP certificates and the Nursing Education practicum need preceptors. Nursing Administration practicum hours are done with nurse leaders at healthcare facilities. The DNP uses faculty project advisors instead of preceptors, and RN-to-BSN students do not need to identify a preceptor.

Can I take a UTA NP program from any state?

No. UTA's state map lists its NP programs, post-master's NP certificates and DNP for Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, Texas and Virginia only. RN-to-BSN and the Education and Administration MSNs are open in many more states. See placement by state.

Is the PMHNP online at UTA?

UTA's program page calls the PMHNP fully online, while the graduate handbook lists it among campus-based programs. Ask the program before you plan clinicals around either format. The PMHNP page covers the placement side.
