New Jersey residents at UTA: what's open and where to train
From New Jersey, UTA will enroll you in its online RN-to-BSN or in either of two MSNs, Nursing Education and Nursing Administration; its NP tracks and DNP are closed. For MSN students in the New York metro, the bigger issue is that UTA's map leaves New York off both MSN lists.

UTA programs and New Jersey
UTA counts you as a New Jersey student when the mailing address in MyMav is here. The college's state-authorization map then gives this answer:

Pennsylvania and Delaware match New Jersey's list exactly. New York does not, and that matters for anyone in the New York metro.
The New York question
The New York-Newark-Jersey City metro takes in about 7.1 million New Jersey residents. For MSN students, a job on the New York side of that metro does not carry over into the practicum. UTA's map leaves New York off both the Nursing Education and Nursing Administration lists, and UTA's handbook permits clinicals only in states where its college can operate.
New York has also stayed out of the Nurse Licensure Compact, which means your New Jersey multistate license carries no practice privilege there. Plan your Education or Administration hours in New Jersey or another listed state such as Pennsylvania, and email NursingSOA@uta.edu before approaching any preceptor outside New Jersey.
Hospitals, metros and agencies in New Jersey
Hackensack Meridian Health and RWJBarnabas Health are two of New Jersey's health systems; Virtua Health, Atlantic Health System and Cooper University Health Care in Camden are others. Beyond the New York metro, about 1.4 million residents live in the New Jersey part of Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington, with smaller metros around Trenton-Princeton and Atlantic City-Hammonton. No UTA arrangement with any of them is implied.
Administration students spread 270 hours across four courses, including 45 each in Financial Management in Nursing (NURS 5341) and Management of Nursing Operations (NURS 5342), all with access to senior nurse leaders. For Education students, the NURS 5362 preceptor has to hold a nursing education role. RN-to-BSN community courses draw on local agencies; New Jersey's state health agency is the New Jersey Department of Health. The RN-to-BSN practice experiences page covers the rest.
What New Jersey requires of out-of-state schools
We did not find any New Jersey Board of Nursing rule that makes an out-of-state program get approval, or give notice, before its students go to New Jersey clinical sites. Subchapter 1 of N.J.A.C. 13:37 governs how the board accredits programs at institutions that New Jersey's Commission on Higher Education licenses. Section 13:37-1.10(c) looks the other way, at New Jersey programs sending students to clinical agencies in other states.
There is a gap: the board's website served a security check during research, so any guidance posted there was not reviewed. Treat the absence of a rule as unconfirmed and ask UTA's state authorization team before you commit to a site.
Licensing in New Jersey
New Jersey's compact membership dates to November 15, 2021; licensing sits with the New Jersey Board of Nursing inside the Division of Consumer Affairs. Nurses holding a multistate license from any member state can practice in New Jersey, which is what UTA's clinical licensing rule asks of you. New Jersey and UTA's NP tracks
UTA's NP tracks and DNP stop at seven states: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, Texas and Virginia. Moving to New Jersey mid-program takes you outside them. The handbook's possible outcomes then include placement trouble, an order to finish clinicals in Texas or another approved state, course or program withdrawal, and graduation pushed back or lost. Questions UTA students ask
Is UTA's online FNP open to New Jersey residents?
No. UTA's Family Nurse Practitioner track shares the seven-state limit that applies to all of its NP tracks, post-master's NP certificates and the DNP, and New Jersey falls outside it. What stays open from New Jersey is the RN-to-BSN and the Education and Administration MSNs.
Can I use my New York hospital job for UTA's RN-to-BSN?
Possibly. Unlike the two MSNs, the RN-to-BSN is on UTA's map for New York, and NURS 3315 and NURS 4455 are built around your workplace. Your MyMav address still makes you a New Jersey student, and because New York is outside the compact, nursing there runs on a New York license. Ask NursingSOA@uta.edu how UTA treats a workplace in another state.
Can my New Jersey hospital job count toward UTA's co-op elective?
The RN-to-BSN offers an optional online elective, NURS 3300, Cooperative Nursing Work Experience, for registered nurse students. UTA says you must be in your work environment at least 120 hours during the term. An older syllabus also required a supervisor's evaluation and an hours verification form, so check the current course page before you enroll.
Do I need a New Jersey license if I hold a multistate license from another state?
Not for practice in New Jersey, which honors multistate licenses from other compact states. If New Jersey has become your home, though, your license questions belong with the New Jersey Board of Nursing. UTA checks licenses through Nursys, so make sure your record matches the details on your UTA account.
