Idaho and UTA: programs, practicums and one open question
From Idaho, you can enroll in UTA's online RN-to-BSN or in either of its non-NP master's degrees, Nursing Education and Nursing Administration. UTA's map leaves out every NP track, the NP certificates and the DNP. Because Idaho's nursing rules barely address schools from other states sending students there, check any Idaho practicum with UTA's state authorization team well ahead of time.

What an Idaho address opens at UTA
In UTA's eyes, your state is the one in your MyMav mailing address. Any plan to move, take a travel contract or find a preceptor in another state goes to NursingSOA@uta.edu first, as out-of-state clinicals explains.

Idaho's rules are silent on out-of-state clinicals
Program approval in Idaho rests on two provisions, IDAPA 24.34.01.150 in the administrative rules and Idaho Code 54-1406 in statute, and both are aimed at nursing programs offered inside the state. Clinical placements arranged by programs based elsewhere get no specific mention in either. The Board's web page, under “Out of State/Online Nursing Programs”, sends schools outside Idaho to hp-licensing@dopl.idaho.gov for requirements and approval.
Idaho Code 54-1412 carves out an exemption for students of approved nursing education programs when the work they do is incident to formal instruction, but it never says whether a Texas program qualifies. Contacting Idaho is UTA's task, not yours. Tell NursingSOA@uta.edu where your practicum would be and let the university establish what Idaho expects.
Idaho's silence is not a yes. Get UTA's written go-ahead before you sign up an Idaho preceptor.
Boise, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Falls and Twin Falls
Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene is one of Idaho's major systems; Saint Alphonsus Health System and St. Luke's Health System are the others. The Boise City metro is by far the largest population center, ahead of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Falls and Twin Falls. These names are a starting map, not a list of sites that take UTA students.
For NURS 5362 you need someone whose job is teaching nurses, whether on a hospital unit, in a clinic or at a college; the Nursing Education MSN page has the detail. Administration students look for senior nurse leaders in a healthcare facility. Idaho layers its own preceptor-licensing policy on top, covered in the FAQ below.
RN-to-BSN work from an Idaho job
You won't look for a preceptor in the RN-to-BSN. The health assessment and leadership courses, NURS 3315 and NURS 4455, can be completed at work; the older-adult and community health courses, NURS 3325 and NURS 4465, in the community, where the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is the state agency. An Idaho license and the compact next door
Idaho has had the Nurse Licensure Compact in force since January 19, 2018. A multistate license from Idaho or any other member state therefore meets UTA's rule that you be licensed where you do clinical work. Details are on RN licensing for clinicals. Idaho has not enacted the APRN Compact.
Two neighbors complicate practicums near a border. Washington is not on UTA's map for the RN-to-BSN or either MSN, so sites there are out. Oregon is on the map but outside the compact, so an Oregon site needs an Oregon license.
For UTA NP students thinking about Idaho
Idaho's rules do make room for APRN students: IDAPA 24.34.01.100.12.a permits APRN practice by an RN who holds an Idaho license or privilege and studies in a nationally accredited APRN program, as long as the practice is an integral part of the curriculum. UTA's map is the barrier. Idaho appears nowhere on UTA's lists for NP tracks, NP certificates or the DNP.
UTA's handbook warns that living in an unlisted state can delay or end graduation, force withdrawal, send you to Texas or another listed state for clinicals, or stall your placement. Email NursingSOA@uta.edu before you move.

Questions UTA students ask
Should I email the Idaho Board of Nursing about my UTA practicum?
No. The Board's inbox for out-of-state programs is aimed at schools, not individual students. Send your question to NursingSOA@uta.edu instead, with your program, your course and the Idaho city where you hope to do the work, and let UTA handle any contact with Idaho's Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses.
Can I do UTA practicum hours in Washington state?
Not under the current map. Washington is missing from UTA's map for all three programs open to Idaho residents, and the graduate handbook keeps clinical work in states where the college can operate. If you live in the Coeur d'Alene area, keep your practicum site on the Idaho side.
Does my Idaho Nursing Education preceptor need a particular license level?
Under an education policy the Idaho Board adopted on April 10, 2024, a clinical preceptor in any nursing program needs a license at least equal to the one the student is pursuing. UTA sets its own minimum: an active, unencumbered license plus a year or more of experience in the role, and for NURS 5362 the preceptor must be in nursing education. Whether Idaho's policy binds an out-of-state program is unclear, so confirm with your course faculty.
Can I start UTA's AGACNP track while living in Boise?
No. Every UTA NP track, the AGACNP included, is limited to students in Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico, Texas and Virginia. Idaho's own rules would let APRN students from accredited programs practice within their curriculum, but UTA's map decides enrollment, and UTA reads your state from MyMav.
