Studying with UTA from Georgia
UTA's state map lists Georgia for three programs: MSN Nursing Administration, MSN Nursing Education and the RN-to-BSN. UTA's NP tracks, its post-master's NP certificates and the DNP do not appear for Georgia, so a Georgia mailing address rules them out. For the programs that are open, Georgia asks for no Board approval of UTA; it asks that you and your preceptor be properly licensed.

Three programs open, two closed
UTA goes by the state on your MyMav mailing address. For a Georgia address, its state-authorization map, as checked September 23, 2026, shows:

Georgia's Board leaves post-licensure programs alone
The Georgia Board of Nursing leaves post-licensure programs, APRN programs too, unapproved and unregulated; the Board is housed in the Georgia Secretary of State's office. An out-of-state RN-to-BSN, MSN or NP program can therefore place students in Georgia without Board approval, subject to licensure conditions. Pre-licensure is a different story: by the Board's account, not one out-of-state or online pre-licensure program currently holds its approval for Georgia clinicals, which has no bearing on UTA's post-licensure programs.
The licensure condition covers more than you. A Georgia resident enrolled out of state who does clinical hours at home needs either a Georgia license or another NLC state's multistate license, and it extends to any faculty member or preceptor teaching or working in Georgia, physically or electronically. Anything unusual in your plan goes to NursingSOA@uta.edu, UTA's state authorization team, for confirmation.
Practicum work that is open to you in Georgia
RN-to-BSN students recruit no one. Employees of Grady Health System, Emory Healthcare, Piedmont Healthcare, Northside Hospital or Wellstar Health System can complete NURS 3315 and NURS 4455 assignments at that workplace, which UTA allows for those courses. NURS 3325 and NURS 4465 happen in the community, where public health settings under the Georgia Department of Public Health are one kind of place to consider. The MSNs need people. NURS 5362, the teaching practicum, calls for 135 hours with someone whose work is nursing education, in a hospital, a clinic or a school. Administration places you in healthcare facilities with senior nurse leaders, and for NURS 5339 UTA prefers a location other than your employer. The Census Bureau's 2025 estimates give metro Atlanta roughly 6.5 million people, dwarfing Savannah and the Georgia sides of Augusta and Columbus, each under half a million.
Your license for Georgia clinical hours
January 19, 2018 is Georgia's compact start date. A multistate license from Texas or another compact home state satisfies both Georgia's rule and UTA's handbook, which says you must be licensed wherever you complete clinicals. A license valid only in a non-compact state falls short, and the Georgia license you would then need comes at your own expense. Your Education or Administration preceptor needs a Georgia or multistate license as well. If you're a UTA NP student and move to Georgia
A move to Georgia takes you off UTA's NP and DNP map. UTA's MSN and PMC handbook confines program completion to states where the College of Nursing and Health Innovation can operate. For a student who lives, moves or works elsewhere, it warns of a late graduation or none at all, withdrawal from a course or the program, clinicals relocated to Texas or another approved state, or a placement denied or delayed.
Write to NursingSOA@uta.edu while the Georgia move is still a plan, before any lease or travel contract is signed and before your MyMav address changes. The Board's added rule for post-licensure APRN programs, that clinical instruction be given by a nurse holding Georgia APRN authorization, would only come into play if UTA listed Georgia for NP tracks, which it currently does not.

Questions UTA students ask
Is UTA's online FNP open to Georgia residents?
Not with a Georgia mailing address, based on UTA's current state map. Seven states appear on the map for NP tracks, post-master's NP certificates and the DNP; Georgia is not one, though neighboring Florida is. UTA's online program pages caution that some states' residents may be ineligible to enroll.
Can I live in Georgia and do UTA NP clinicals in Florida?
UTA uses your MyMav mailing address as your state, and a Georgia address is not on the NP list even though Florida is. The handbook also warns that living in an unapproved state can lead to denied placement or withdrawal. Ask NursingSOA@uta.edu before you plan anything across the state line.
Does Georgia's preceptor tax credit apply to UTA students' preceptors?
No. Georgia's Preceptor Tax Incentive Program gives licensed Georgia physicians, dentists, APRNs and PAs a state tax credit for uncompensated, community-based teaching, but the students must be in a Georgia program in medicine, dentistry, NP or PA training. HB 144 brought revisions and an extension, plus a yearly registration requirement that begins in 2026. UTA students do not count toward it.
Do I need a Georgia license for UTA's Education practicum in Atlanta?
Yes, unless you hold another compact state's multistate license; that is Georgia's rule for residents in out-of-state programs doing clinical hours there, and it matches UTA's handbook. Your NURS 5362 preceptor must meet the same licensure rule, because the Board applies it to preceptors working in Georgia.
